Discover Sitges

Just 35 minutes south of Barcelona, Sitges is the Mediterranean’s most cosmopolitan beach town. With 17 beaches stretching along its coastline, a beautifully preserved old town, and a cultural calendar that punches well above its weight, Sitges has been attracting artists, travellers, and sun-seekers since the 19th century.

The town is internationally known for the Sitges International Film Festival, one of the world’s premier genre film festivals. Its vibrant nightlife, boutique shopping, and excellent restaurant scene make it a popular destination for weekend getaways and extended stays alike.

Beyond the beaches, the Museu Maricel houses an outstanding collection spanning from the Romanesque to the 20th century, while the nearby Garraf Natural Park offers dramatic coastal hiking trails with views over the Mediterranean. The park’s unique karst landscape and hidden coves are best explored with a local who knows the access points.

The journey: Barcelona to Sitges via the Garraf coast

There are two ways to drive from Barcelona to Sitges, and your chauffeur can take either one depending on your preference:

The fast route takes the C-32 motorway through the Garraf tunnel — a quick, smooth 35-minute drive that emerges on the coast just north of Sitges. This is the standard route and the one we recommend when you want to arrive quickly.

The scenic alternative follows the C-31 coastal road through the Garraf Natural Park. This clifftop road hugs the coast with dramatic sea views, passing through tiny coves and the striking Garraf architectural landmarks — including a Gaudí-designed building at the old Garraf winery. It adds about 15 minutes to the journey but is one of the most beautiful short drives near Barcelona. Just request it when booking.

Fun fact: Barcelona El Prat Airport is actually closer to Sitges than to central Barcelona. The transfer from the airport takes around 25 minutes — making Sitges an easy first stop for travellers arriving by air.

Getting to Sitges: your options compared

  • Rodalies train (R2 Sud line): From Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia or Sants to Sitges in about 35–40 minutes, costing €4–5. Runs every 20–30 minutes. A decent option for solo travellers, but the train can be very crowded on summer weekends and offers limited luggage space. No direct service from the airport.
  • Mon-bus coach: Direct bus from Barcelona Airport to Sitges. Runs a few times per day, takes about 30 minutes. Limited schedule and not available late at night.
  • Taxi: Available but uses a metered fare. A taxi from Barcelona to Sitges typically costs €50–70 depending on traffic and time of day, with potential surcharges for luggage, nights, and weekends. No guaranteed vehicle quality.
  • Private transfer: Fixed price from €85 regardless of traffic or time of day. Premium Mercedes vehicle, professional chauffeur, door-to-door. Particularly worthwhile for airport arrivals (faster than getting to a train station), groups, or late-night returns from Sitges nightlife.
